The Rose of Kannauj is very famous worldwide and most people also know Kannauj just because of its rose. Kannauj became the ‘perfume city of India’ after it became the hub for attar production. But it all started with this Rose Attar. It is a famous story that Noorjahan, wife of Mughal emperor Jahangir discovered it first. 

Rose attar is always in high demand due to its requirement in making many other products like cosmetics, candles, soaps, perfumes, room fresheners, etc. It lends its fragrance to them which makes them even more special. It is also one of the costliest attars out of all attar made in kannauj.

Manufacturing Process of Rose Attar

Rose Attar is made traditionally in our Kannauj distillery using the same age-old method devised about 400 years ago. The rose flowers used in the process are carefully selected for quality. ‘Rosa damascena’ is used to extract this attar. It was originated in the Indian subcontinent. Thousands of rose petals are collected in jute bags every day in the city. It is estimated that more than 50kgs of these petals are needed for producing about 10ml of attar. The process used is Hydro-distillation, similar to many other attars.
